2025 in the Serie BKT kicks off with a surprise: for the first time since the award was established, now in its fourth edition, the player of the month is a defender.
Federico Bonini, a center-back for Catanzaro, was voted January's MVP by DAZN journalists, the official broadcaster of the championship, along with Stats Perform and Andrea Consales, founder of the Calcio di Periferia community.
The award, created by BKT – leader in the production of Off-Highway tires and Title Sponsor of the championship - and officially recognized by Lega B, was presented during the pre-match ceremony of Catanzaro-Cittadella, the 26th round of the championship.
Opta data shows that in January, no player scored more goals than Federico Bonini (three, tied with Leonardo Mancuso and Alberto Cerri) in Serie BKT. Unusual numbers for a defender, but they demonstrate an offensive inclination, combined with solid defensive contributions, as Bonini also boasts the highest number of duels won (20), defensive clearances (18), and recoveries (14) during the period considered.
After Vergara, Esposito, Pierini, Iemmello, and Tramoni, it is now the 23-year-old from the Eagles' turn to lift the MVP of the Month award for Serie BKT. Who will be the next to make their mark?
