Returning to Serie BKT during the winter transfer window to boost Palermo’s promotion hopes, Joel Pohjanpalo proved decisive in the race for the Playoffs throughout the second half of the season, especially in April, earning him the MVP of the Month award.
Four goals (and one assist) in three matches, including a hat-trick, were the Finnish striker’s haul, which earned him the title of best player of the month.
He was voted by journalists from DAZN, the official broadcaster of the league, by Stats Perform, and by Luca Leoni, founder of the podcast “Espresso Cadetto.”
The award, created by BKT - leading company in the production of Off-Highway tires and Title Sponsor of the league - officially recognized by Lega B, was presented to the player during the pre-match ceremony of Palermo vs. Frosinone, the 37th matchday of the Serie BKT season.
This marks the fifth time in three seasons that Pohjanpalo has been named MVP of the Month, making him the player with the most individual awards since the MVP was established. He won the first four while playing for Venezia, where he was a key figure in their promotion last year.
In January, Palermo brought him back to Serie BKT, and he quickly won over the fans, who nicknamed him U Vichingu (The Viking, in Sicilian dialect), thanks to his charisma but especially due to the many crucial goals he scored in the second half of the season - 9 in twelve matches - leaving a significant mark on the Playoff race.
And right after starring in the interview series by BKT and Chiamarsi Bomber featuring historic MVPs of the league, here he is lifting the final individual award of the regular season.
Now that all the monthly MVPs have been named, the only thing left is to announce the best player of the season. Who will be the MVP of Serie BKT 2024/25?
